1946: VILLA VICTORIA STUDENT COUNCIL

These young ladies made up the student council for the 1946-1947 school year. As usual, there are a number of familiar names in the listing. Perhaps a visitor will also find a friend or relative. I would guess that the young lady with the "Ronan" last name would be a relative of one of the Diocese's popular Priests, Monsignor Hugh Ronan.

1926:VILLA VICTORIA BEATIFICATION OF SISTER LUCY FILIPPINI

The area is rightly proud of the legendary Villa Victoria Academy, which has provided splendid education facilities for young ladies from the Central Jersey are for decades. The graphic tells of the journey of a few of Villa Victoria's Sisters Filippini along with Bishop Walsh to Italy where the beatification of Venerable Lucy Filippini will take place at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.

1920: Fisk Estate Becomes Villa Victoria

Many years ago, I gave Sister Lillian a full page article on the opening of Ewing's fabulous Villa Victoria Academy. Unfortunately, I wasn't working at the library at the time, as I would have laminated the page to assure that it would be preserved. Here is the article that told of the events surrounding the acquisition of the Fisk estate, which ultimately became Villa Victoria.

IT WAS A VERY SMALL GRADUATION CLASS WITH NUMEROUS LOCALLY FAMILIAR FAMILY NAMES IN THE PHOTO. VILLA VICTORIA HAS ALWAYS MAINTAINED A REPUTATION OF BEING A PREFERRED, UPSCALE PAROCHIAL SCHOOL.

THE YOUNG LADIES IN THEIR ANGELIC WHITE DRESSES HARKEN BACK TO THE YEARS WHEN BOYS WERE COMPLETELY CAPTIVATED BY THE "FEMININE MYSTIQUE".......YEARS WHEN YOUNG LADIES WERE PREDOMINENTLY INNOCENT AND WHOLESOME...INDEED BEFORE ALL THE IN-YOUR-FACE SEXUALITY WHICH PERVADES TODAY'S PERMISSIVE SOCIETY.
