Music is most definitely in the Glover and Britton family genes. My dear wife Judy and I met in Louise Baird's Hamilton High School choir back in the late 1940's and 50's. Judy was one of our stellar alto voices and I a baritone. Each of us came from a music loving family with a piano and were very active in family sing alongs. When we married in 1954 and had our 3 wonderful children, Juliane, Tom, and Ken, we were sure to expose them to music, and they were regular participants as we sang all the old songs. The old man (that's me) just completed my 8th year of bringing music to my generation and others who are not into the loud twangy rock and roll stuff. Kenny spun off to be an incredible composer and singer. The above link will bring you to his website where you can sample "Angel In Your Heart;" composed and sung by Kenny Glover.

Son Tom is also an accomplished vocalist, and numerous folks who follow the Irish genre of music probably visited the Tir Na Nog and other local Irish pubs where Tom has performed over the years. Grandaughter Jessica Saiia has also inherited the gene which is also firmly implanted in my daughter Juliane. Jessica was a lead singer in "On The Town;"  a high school musical prior to entering Rider University. 

Judy and I tried to teach our children that music is one of God's precious gifts. I think they agree, and I think we succeeded!

MANY people who are Times of Trenton subscribers tell me that they love re-living their younger years and an equal number tell them that my column is cut out and sent to those who are no longer in the area. At my recent Kuser Farm presentation, there was a full house; A number asked how they could access my column on line. 1954 - 2013 TOM AND JUDY GLOVER 59th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

Where did the time go? This morning when I sat down at the table for my morning cup of coffee and the Trenton Times and the New York Post at the ready, I found a card that my dear wife left on the table. When I opened it, it read, "Happy Anniversary. Let's go for 60!" How ironic that "our song" was that 1950's Nat Cole hit, "Too Young." Numerous relatives on my side of the family and Judy's opined that we were too young. Wow, did we prove them wrong! My daughter, Juliane (one "n") is a very talented "scrapbooker" and took the time to assemble photos and memorabilia into an incredible "3-D" scrapbook; the pages above are two of many equally beautiful.

1954-2013: "WHEN I FALL IN LOVE, IT WILL BE FOREVER..."

This Thursday marks the 59th year of wedded bliss to my Hamilton High School classmate and lifetime soulmate, Judy Britton Glover. The title of this post is taken from one of the songs I almost always sing at my local music appearances at the Summer Kuser Farm Gazebo concerts, as well as selected local "get togethers" with mature senior citizen groups. Each day, I say a prayer to my God, thanking him for blessing me with a relationship that will last for eternity. As that old song goes,

"When I fall in love, it will be forever, or I'll never fall in love.

In a restless world like this is, love is ended before its begun,

And too many moonlight kisses seem to cool in the warmth of the sun.

When I give my heart, it will be completely, Or I'll never give my heart.

And the moment I can feel that you feel that way too,

Is when I fall in love with you.."

As my military service descends ever deeper into the age of antiquity, I, and a large number of us who were Korean and Cold War veterans, most of us in our early 80's, proudly wear the cap with our military unit emplazoned on it for all to see. You're darn right I am proud to have given 3 years of my youth to the American military! My sentiment is shared by the majority of my contemporaries; just check all those hats you will see as we enter another season of life outdoors. The years I spent in that "hush-hush" cloak and dagger secret society still brings back fond memories of all the wonderful guys with whom I served. I am proud that Uncle Sam chose me to the extent that he gave me and my Army Security Agency buddies a "Top Secret-Codeword" clearance.

SEPTEMBER 29th 1933: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME

When I was a young man, we used to have a saying that is probably familiar to many of my generation: Just call me 'wagon wheel;' I've been through it all." With all the humility I could muster, I saved this graphic in my "NOTABLE PERSONS" folder, realizing that many people know there is a Tom Glover inhabiting the local area. Actually, I Photoshopped this graphic to send to my children and grandchildren for inclusion in the Glover family heirloom scrapbook. As I look back over these 79 years, I can safely say I have had a great ride, and if God wills it, there are some more miles ahead. Just a few of the things that weren't around in my youth include television, ball point pens, computers,l cell phones, "texting," and.....well, there is actually a list that would probably take up many bytes on this computer. To all those wonderful people who sent me greetings, humble thanks.

2012: SPAM USED TO BE AN ARMY STAPLE

"Hi I wish for to subscribe to this website......." Please spamming illiterate, I really only want those who are educated and well versed in the English language.
As this site has moved into the high hits category with over 550,000 visits, the spam community come into the picture. To my fellow Blogspot users with their own website, I suggest you click on your "COMMENTS" screen and count the SPAM that Google succeeds in intercepting. At one point, there were 23 listed, all of whom suggest you visit their website. Everything from tupperware to enlarging physical parts of the body. BEWARE! These dregs of society are all over the globe.

2012: THANK YOU FOR VISITING!

Time out for a humble "thank you" to all visitors to this web site who have been loyal daily visitors, and also to those who have just discovered this treasure trove of local history and memories. When the site was introduced way back in 2005, the success of this website was in doubt for the first few months. Then, as word of mouth spread, more and more people visited and most returned. Unfortunately, there are still countless local citizens who do not use computing and the majority are senior citizens who would really go wild when they started paging through the 7,500 - plus pages. The first months averaged 75 to 100 visitors per day. The average now has accelerated to between 300 and 450 per day. Thank you for your support and thank you more for making this a regular internet destination; you are much appreciated.

2012: MAY I INTRODUCE THE NEW BABY IN THE TOM GLOVER HOUSEHOLD

I was heartbroken when "Happy," my silver and white husky with blue eyes died from diabetes. I have had a dog all my my life. On Fathers' Day this year, my daughter Julie in "kahoots" with my dear wife Judy, decided to surprise me with a very special Fathers Day gift. She was packed in a loose fitting cardboard box, and when I opened it, the little lady above immediately found a friend forever. The above photo was taken today (August 5) where I had her bathed and groomed by "Heather," a charming young lady in Dr. Max Solomon's employ. Daisy Mae is a Shietzu-Habanera-and some other breed and has a loving personality. We're gonna get along just fine.

PARDON THE INACTIVITY

I would assume that hackers look for websites with a growing number of visitors. Thus it is with these miserable b#### who decide to infect my computer with a process known as "redirect." If I type in a URL such as www.glover320.blogspot.com, a virus known as "Partner 47..." says the site cannot be found. Instead, there is a page full of links to other sites that have nothing to do with my web site. Unfortunately, Symantic has not been sharp enough to nuke this miserable virus. Fortunately, I can't get to the individual who is behind this disgusting virus...otherwise I would be jailed for putting his lights out. Please be patient. I will ultimately prevail.

2012: CELEBRATING 58 YEARS OF TRUE WEDDED BLISS

Fifty eight years; How the time has flown! The above photo was with me through my entire U.S. Army tour in Europe from 1955 through 1958. It reposed next to my bed (not "bunk;" we ASA guys lived off base in an apartment) and was on my R390 radio at my monitoring position. Fast forward to April 24, 2012. The greeting above is a classic that I will send to my family. When I awoke this morning a "Bounty" wipe was on my breakfast table with the inscription "you are a keeper..." In response, I drew the heart with my comment and replaced our Hallmark greeting with a Bounty greeting. True love never dies!

SEVEN YEARS AGO, THIS WEBSITE WAS CREATED AS AN HISTORICAL RESEARCH SOURCE.
I CHOSE THE SLOGAN "Local history with a personal touch," AND THAT SLOGAN WILL BE MAINTAINED. WITH AN AVERAGE OF 350 TO 450 "HITS" PER DAY, THERE WILL BE ONE HALF OF A MILLION VISITORS BEFORE THE END OF APRIL!

We are "birders'' too and have a suet feeder outside our kitchen window and delight in watching bluebirds feed on the little pieces of suet dropped by hungry woodpeckers. The goldfinch will be turning bright yellow soon and they are always a delight to see. Thanks for such a beautiful picture.

2004: THANK YOU, GLEN; IT'S NICE TO BE RECOGNIZED

This post was re-inserted after I found that Google's web hosting site deleted many of my photos, articles and other graphic material. I am re-posting it herewith.

Tom - someone noted a commendation made to you by the township.We did not hear of this! Please advise!

"Lakeside Girl" recently asked (question above) about a commendation I received. The only one I can recall is from Mayor Gilmore 7 years ago, and that may be the one you refer to. I have it hanging on the wall in my Library Local History workshop. I spend hours quietly assembling historical data for this blog, I also spend many volunteer hours doing what I love to do, bringing the musical past and our historical past to any and all of my contemporaries who are interested.

With my programs at Kuser Mansion being dropped as of last Spring, I am now presenting programs in the meeting rooms at the Hamilton Township Public Library. The January program drew more than 100 visitors.

Future programs will include historical subjects including "WHITE CITY,the Coney Island of New Jersey," the "New Jersey State Fair," and other public interest presentations featuring Hamilton Township, Trenton, and the surrounding communities. I will also be bringing my popular "THE MUSIC WE GREW UP WITH" sing along programs to the Kuser Farm gazebo this spring and summer. Watch for the announcement here and also in my "Sentimental Journey" columns.

As to the above proclamation, it succinctly details those activities to which I have dedicated my senior years both as a volunteer and as a gainfully employed part time Hamiltonian. I humbly and gratefully accepted the proclamation which former Mayor Glen Gilmore was kind enough to bestow upon me, and promise to continue my various community programs as long as the Lord allows.

Tom, I visit your site often...strongly recommended by my dad and mom who grew up in Trenton in the 40's and 50's. Now I'm stuck in today's Trenton. Your site always makes me feel better...makes me wish for the better days you highlight so well. Any chance you have ANY info about Trenton's Island neighborhood? Its the ONLY place in Trenton that seems to have no history or old pictures. I have some old photos of the Flood of '55 somewhere, but that's about it. Not even pix of the Log Basin. The Island is barely holding on these days...I'd love to re-energize my neighbors with anything you might have. Have a very Merry Christmas!

Thank you, Bill Jr.; It is nice to hear from you! Sit down with your mom and dad sometime while they are still with you and let them tell you about the Trenton that was......no, not only the Trenton that was, but also the environment those of us who came of age in the 40's and 50's experienced. There were a number of negatives about those years, but they pale in comparison to the way society has changed in this generation. We had the good fortune of beautiful music, WHOLESOME tv and movie entertainment, and the girls your dad and I chased were indeed chaste!

As to your request for Island material, I think there are a number of posts relating to the Cadwalader area, West End, Glen Afton, etc. Use the SEARCH feature under my home page graphic. 2011: HAPPY NEW YEAR!

On those occasions when this blog is mentioned in my bi-weekly "Sentimental Journey" column, the daily total has risen to 900+ which is a testament to the popularity of the Trenton Times. 2011: SORRY I HAVE BEEN A BI T INACTIVE BUT......

You have undoubtedly wondered where my normal posts have been over the past few days. I have a valid excuse. Starting last Thursday, after looking at the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus and Hyundai Elantra, I opted for an all wheel drive white Suburu. The car in the photo is stock photo, but it is identical to the photo. The paperwork and running around involved in the purchase of a car is a challenging task. The Columbus Day holiday resulted in delays that were finally finalized this afternoon, so I am back on track. The car I bought? A dream to drive and I understand it is a real joy to drive in heavier snow which I am sure will be with us during the lifetime of the car. One of the main reasons I decided on the Suburu was in googling various searches, I learned that 90% of all Suburu all wheel drive cars sold in the past 10 years are still on the road. That is an impressive statistic.
