"You keep coming back like a song.
A song that keeps saying 'remember.'"
The sweet used to be that was once you and me,
Keeps coming back line an old melody.."
OK, I admit it. I am completely enamored when I see these photos of center city Trenton; a place where I, my family, and countless visitors to this site hold in an almost sacred place in our collective memories. Reid's, The Mayfair, Yard's Kresge's, Woolworth's, Dunham's, Kaplan's, Traver's Book Store, Flagg Brothers Shoes, Trenton Transit, and a red brick paved street, stir memories in me that are so firmly and indelibly impressed in my memory that I know I will take them with me when life's journey is over.
The passage above is from an old song I remember to this day. It was popular back in the 1940's, and quite appropriate to this nostalgic post. It ends.........
"From out of the past, where forgotten things belong, you keep coming back by a song.." AMEN!

HI TOM...I USED TO ENJOY WATCHING THE SALES PEOPLE USE THAT TROLLEY CAR SYSTEM TO SEND MONEY WHEN YOU PURCHASED SOMETHING. NOT ALL STORES USED IT BUT I ALWAYS THOUGHT A CASH REGISTER WAS EASIER. YOU WOULD WONDER IF THEY THEY TRUSTED THE SALES PEOPLE TO HANDLE MONEY. JUST ONE OF THE THINGS THEY DID IN THE OLD DAYS.
Hi Tom: One of my favorite shots. The bus was headed to West Trenton -- I rode it many times. I have such wonderful memories and you help keep them alive for me. Thanks so much.
This splendid photograph captures perfectly the vibrancy, vitality and energy of a once great capitol city's downtown commerce and bustle. Our hometown we all revere and remember so fondly and warmly. This corner like so many of recent views, reminds us of the store names we all shopped in; the buses we took to get here and there and the excitement we had each time we got off the bus just to walk around and enjoy. I can look at these all day and hope there will be many more to view. Thanks.
I MIGHT ADD, OUR VISITS TO THE ARCADE BOWLING ALLEYS ON THE SECOND FLOOR. THAT WAS ANOTHER SPOT IN DOWNTOWN TRENTON WHERE YOU CAN BOWL AND PLAY BILLARDS. WE FELT HAMILTON TOWNSHIP NEEDED MORE BOWLING LANES AND DECIDED TO BUY SOME GROUND ON ROUTE 33. OUR HAMILTON BOWLING LANES WAS A BIG SUCCESS AND AFTER 15 YEARS WE SOLD THE BUSINESS. BEST REGARDS.
