1884: CHICKEN THIEVES IN CHAMBERSBURG

Hmmm...! A rural touch of the Burg when residents had "mini farms." Imagine a chicken coop in a yard on Washington and William Streets in Chambersburg. This was during the era when Chambersburg was a borough, and there were many open fields with corn, orchards, and other rural characteristics. The influx of immigrants was yet to begin in ernest. Incidentally, the "Pond Run Road" referred to was to become "Jefferson Street," and then morph into today's
Liberty Street.
