This is just one page from an old scrapbook that has reposed in my collection for many years. Unfortunately, these old scrapbooks were printed on "pulp" paper, rather than "rag" content as in the 19th century. As a result, the pages turn brown (known as "foxing,") and the paste wrinkles the pages, making it difficult to flatten the page. This, tattered, faded, and thankfully, surviving page from that old scrapbook has been carefully restored to at least a modicum of its original glory. To the left of the graphic, you will see the original as scanned into the computer. With today's photo imaging software, the original can be transformed into at least a legible historic piece of digitized history. As readers of my column, and visitors to this website are well aware, I have always had a consuming interest in the educational system in our local area. Let me read about the old one room school house as written above, and I am completely enthralled.
