1943: LAWRENCEVILLE AIRPLANE SPOTTING TOWER

HAD I BEEN A BIT OLDER DURING THE SCARY PART OF WWII WHEN WE WERE ENTERTAINING THE POSSIBILITY OF AN ENEMY AIR ATTACK, I WOULD HAVE MADE A GREAT PLANE SPOTTER. OUR GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION HERE IN HAMILTON PROVIDED AN AREA WHERE HUNDREDS OF AIRCRAFT PASSED OVER DAY AND NIGHT. TO THIS DAY, I WOULD RECOGNIZE THE DRONE OF A DOUGLAS DC3 (C47) AS IT PASSED OVERHEAD, AS WELL AS A P51 MUSTANG, P39 AIRACOBRA, AND MANY OTHER PLANES OF THE ERA. AS I RECALL, TRENTON HAD A SPOTTING STATION ATOP THE BROAD STREET BANK BUILDING WHERE VOLUNTEERS WITH BINOCULARS KEPT A STEADY WATCH ON THE WARTIME SKIES.
