1943: TELL YOUR GRANDCHILDREN ABOUT VICTORY GARDENS!
During the earlier years of World War II, many urban city dwellers learned how to become back yard farmers as they voraciously read everything they could find in the local press and in magazines, about how to start a Victory Garden. In our rural Hamilton, most of us were familiar with gardens, as nearly every home owner had a back yard vegetable garden along with chickens. In my Hartley Avenue garden there were rows of corn, carrots, radishes, tomatoes, cucumebers, and squash. We had a "Victory Garden" long before the American public was asked to embark on the somewhat daunting task.
