1925: TRENTON "SUCCEED WITH TRENTON" PROGRAM

The full page ad from the "BUSINESSES-TRENTON" folder in the Hamilton Library Local History Collection is an interesting cross sectional view of who the "movers and shakers" were during the roaring twnetys whem Trenton was an industrial city. On a personal note, I was on intimate terms with the Wiley Hughes Supply Company during my years as a bearing and power transmission specialist. The Rowley Bakery on the corner of South Olden and Hobart Avenues was a very popular bakery back in the day. It was here that I first encountered the famous Trenton "cream stick." Unfortunately, with a graphic as large as a full page, the web hosting limit is at the max for enlarging. This results in the "small print" being virtually undreadable to those of us who are optically challenged. However, the display ads are quite legible.

HI TOM....I WAS 6 YEARS OLD WHEN THAT ADD APPEARED AND READY TO START SCHOOL. WE HAD JUST MOVED TO VILLA PARK FROM THE BURG AND I WAS ANXIOUS TO SEE HOW DIFFERENT IT WAS LIVING AWAY FROM CHAMBERSBURG. LOOKING AT THAT AD I LATER ON CAME TO KNOW MOST OF THE ADVERTISERS AND BERT AVENUE WAS LIKE LIVING IN ANOTHERE WORLD. WE MOVED BACK TO MOTT ST. A SHORT TIME LATER TO OPEN A STORE AT 123. AT MY AGE NOW, IT SEEMS THESE MEMORIES LINGER. THANKS AGAIN TOM.

They are precious memories, Ralph, and when you share them with our visitors you add a cherry on top of a delicious vanilla sundae. Thanks for all you do. Stay as young as you are, even in the 90's; your mental attitude and your interest in places like this website show that you have the mind and manner of a man much younger than you are.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH TOM....I FEEL THE HARDSHIPS OF THE EARLY DEPRESSION YEARS AND MY WORK AT THE POST OFFICE HAS A LOT TO DO WITH MY ABILITY TO ACT MUCH YOUNGER. I'VE BEEN THROUGH MANY EVENTS IN MY LIFETIME TO RECALL AND YOUR SITE IS A GOOD WAY TO DO THAT. THANKS AGAIN AND BEST REGARDS.

Tom, At last I know the original name of the Rowley Bakery that sat right across the street from our So Olden Ave home. The bakery was open on and off while we lived there. The absolutely best hard rolls early on weekend mornings. We were so sad when it closed. Seems the owner at that time had money difficulties. Again, you have filled in a spot in my memory.
