1937: 75 YEARS AGO IN DOWNTOWN TRENTON

The Trenton Times and the Daily State Gazette, a sister publication, carried little inserts under byline such as "25 years ago in Trenton, " or "Trenton 100 years ago." They were interesting historic looks back to Trenton in earlier years. Thanks to the Duke University R.C. Maxwell Collection, "The Hamilton Scrapbook" can also display fascinating photos of the Trenton many of us loved and knew. Our younger visitors will get an idea of the splendor of a town that has gone through troubled times over the last 50 or 60 years.

HI TOM....1937 WAS THE YEAR WE LOST OUR HOUSE ON BERT AVE. THRU FORECLOSURE AND MOVED TO FRANKLIN ST. THE GOVERNMENT PAID US $17000.00 FOR OUR EQUITY AND BOUGHT THE HOUSE ON FRANKLIN WITH IT. CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT YOU WERE ABLE TO PURCHASE A HOUE FOR THAT MUCH IN THOSE DAYS. WE WERE STILL IN THE SAME NEIGHBORHOOD BUT IN THE BURG INSTEAD OF VILLA PARK. IT WAS STILL A PLEASANT WALK TO DOWNTOWN TRENTON AND CLOSE TO SCHOOLS. BEST REGARDS AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WPORK.
