Rusling, Rowan, and who knows how many other notable citizens of Broad Street Park had a part in founding this Broad Street Park landmark for so many years. The edifice is no longer the home of the Methodists of the area. The engraving was inserted from my "BROAD STREET PARK" folder, and the article has been reduced to only detail the dedication ceremony and other pertinent historic information. In order to acheive a legible post, I had to eliminate the religious sermon preached by Methodist Bishop Foss.

1895: DEDICATION OF THE BROAD STREET PARK M.E. CHURCH

I think the Broad Street Park Methodist Church is still a Methodist Congregation, its name was changed, for what reason I don't know, to The New Covenant United Methodist Church, the pastor there is Rev. Danny Thomas and not the one we remember from TV. I could be wrong, its happened before.

Let Gary know he is correct. The Church is still Methodist and the pastor is Rev. Danny Thomas. He was kind enough to let my sister and myself into the church one afternoon to view the stained glass windows bearing the Willey names, among other supporters of the church from it's inception. Eugene S. Willey's father, the Rev. Joseph E. Willey preached there for many years.

My great grandfather, Rev. James Harle, was one of the founders of this church. He was known as the backwoods preacher.
