THESE WONDERFUL VOLUNTEERS WERE A GIFT FROM GOD FOR THOSE CITIZENS WHO WERE VICTIMS OF THE GREAT DEPRESSION. THIS FEATURE WAS PUBLISHED AT A TIME WHEN THE DEPRESSION WAS
AFFECTING HUNDREDS OF LOCAL CITIZENS. THE GUILD STILL SERVES THE NEEDY TODAY.

Guild was down the St. on Clinton Ave. from the Normal School. This was more or less our neighborhood growing up. Mom & Pop were caretakers for a few years before retiring to Hamilton in the late 1960s. There were a few impressive buildings along Clinton. I imagine originally mansions. Mrs. William C. Yard was my maternal grandmother. I never met her as she passed away before I was born but I had heard that she was very active in the Mt. Carmel Guild
