Here's another enlarged extract showing that area of South Broad Street
just before the intersection of Hamilton, moving away from the Mill Hill
area. I made numerous visits to that shop when I worked for Fritz Kuser
back in the 1940's. Love that truck that my generation called a "panel
truck."
Hi Tom, I haven't commented in quite some time, but there is a very interesting aspect, for me, of this photo of South Broad St. When you enlarge the photo, take a look at the building to the right of the Trenton Speedometer Shop. The plaque over the front window states, Velie Sales and Service. Another dealership location discovered. The Velie automobile was manufactured from 1908 until the end of 1928. Only a small number of cars were built each year, so this dealer must have struggled a bit to sell cars during this era. So many interesting facts can be gleaned when we study these photos. By the way, back in the day, Trenton Speedometer, turned back speedometers, if you were so inclined, when selling or trading a car. Not me, of course. rayfromvillapark

ReplyDeleteTrenton Speedometer rented the store front out in later years, and "Fred" the owner would do his magic "roll backs" in the garage in the alley behind this store.
