Here's a zoomed in view from the Duke University Library R.C. Maxwell file number XXX3527 which gives a beautiful closeup of the Stacy Trent and Hildebrecht hotels including the Llewellen corner drug store as it looked in the year 1937.
HI TOM....THIS IS WHERE I STARTED MY MAIL ROUTE IN THE 50'S. IT WAS THE HEAVIEST MAIL ROUTE IN THE OFFICE AND THE DOCTORS SAMPLES MADE IT HARDER. I HAD THE ROEBLINGS, MANY DOCTORS, POLITICANS AND OTHER PROMINATE PEOPLE . THE REGULAR MAIL CARRIER WAS OUT ON SICK TIME AND I WAS ASSIGNED THE ROUTE.
They used to have Military Balls at the hotels in the 50's. The military from the nearby bases were invited. I only went once but I remember how beautiful it was. Also, I love to show "things that arent't there anymore" to my family. I would have no access to photos like this if it wasn't for you. Many thanks
