1939: PEOPLE'S BREWING COMPANY AND MERCER BOTTLING

This is Lamberton Street approaching Lalor Street in South Trenton. Perhaps this particular view was previously published but I have enhanced and sharpened the image for better clarity.

  1. Approaching this section the brewing would be only outdone by the smell of Stokley's in August when the tomatoes were being processed.

  2. Just off the screen to the right was Krupa's Boat Yard. Our crew of 16 year old fishermen rented our first row boat there and rowed our way - against the spring current - all of about 500 feet upstream where we caught herring (maybe five of them).

Drive up Lamberton St a bit to the Bridge Tavern (owne by the Gendek family), then came the Submarine Races, and finally, the Marine Terminal.

Trenton's riverfront was really wonderful, and wholly abused by everyone - especially the City. I wonder how many millions of gallons of raw sewage made it into the river back in those days.
