Here's another delightful photo of the area of St. Mary's Cathedral. The brick building in the foreground and to the right indicates that it is the Convent, and I assume also the school.
Hi Tom, I believe, we have mentioned that the plaque, at the top of the building, says St. Mary's Convent, in a previous photo. in which this building appeared. Of interest to me, is the old 1946 GMC Greyhound Silversides, intercity bus. It was more than likely headed for Philadelphia, as it is turning south on Warren, and had just left the Perry St Bus Terminal for an afternoon run (observing the time on the clock). If it was heading to New York, it should have turned right on Broad heading North. Lots to see in these wonderful old photos. rayfromvillapark
YOU ARE RIGHT, RAY. CLOSER ENLARGEMENT SHOWS "ST. MARY'S CO...." WITH THE SIZE OF THAT BUILDING, I FIGURED THAT THE SCHOOL WAS ALSO THE ABODE OF THE SISTERS.
Tom: As noted preiously, the school is situated behind the church, fronting on Chancery Lane. Behind the convent is the Gym where my boyscout troop 35 met.
Yes, the school was behind the church. 1950 was also the year my mother was a senior (and graduated) Cathedral. Thanks for giving me a peek into what it was like back then. Great shot! :)
