1936; STATE AND BROAD ST. TRENTON AT NIGHT

I recall the many times I ventured into downtown Trenton on a Thursday night to pick up my high school sweetheart and wife of 59 years as the stores closed down at 9. I was there almost every Thursday night waiting along E. State Street just past the bus stop for Judy to meet me as Yard's closed their doors for the night. The scene above is a bit earlier than my 1949 and 1950's journeys to the city, but chances are my favorite Trenton police officer at the time, Chet Hughes would look the other way as I spent a few minutes waiting. Pleasant memories!

  3. HI TOM....1936, WHATA YEAR. I WAS SELECTED BY JAKE MILLER TO PLAY FOR THE SCHROTHS THAT YEAR AND I WAS DOING FINE IN HIGH SCHOOL. BUT LATER ON, WHILE I WORKED AT THE POST OFFICE I HAD PROBLEMS GALORE IN FINDING PARKING PLACES TO DELIVER PARCEL POST DOWNTOWN. THE COPS WENT ALONG WITH US AND LET US PARK IN NO PARKING AREAS. I RECALL GOING IN TOWN ON THURSDAY NIGHTS WITH MY FRIEND JOHN DeANGELO TO PICK UP HIS GIRLFRIEND. I OFTEN WONDERED WHY THEY CHOOSE THURSDAY NIGHTS TO STAY OPEN AT NIGHT. HIS GIRLFRIEND, SOPHIE, WORKED AT DUNHAM'S FOR 50 YEARS OR MORE. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES,

  4. Speaking of cops, I think Cliff Moon was a cop, that was on scene when the guy shot up the church near Hamilton and Clinton AV in the late 50s. I can't remember the police chief's name, but he seemed old, and was trying to draw the guys attention...tho the guy was already gone.

  5. Ron:

The church was St.Jochim's and the chief at that time was Jack Lanahan a good friend, and brother Elk at lodge 105 on No.Warren St.
He succeeded Chief Bill Dooling, Dinky Doolings Dad.
Jack was chief until the early 60's when Larry Bloaking took over during Carmen Armenti's term as Mayor. Larry died too young.
