THIS IS ONE OF THE LATER VIEWS OF THE WHITE HORSE TAVERN AS IT APPEARED IN 1946. IT IS A SAD FACT THAT MANY OF HAMILTON TOWNSHIP'S HISTORIC LANDMARKS FELL TO THE WRECKER'S BALL. THE BROMLEY INN IS NOW BOARDED UP AND ON THE ENDANGERED LIST.
Tom, is it true that the Tavern was called the White Horse Tavern, because George Washington tied his horse up there, on his way North? I heard that story as a kid, or later when I lived in Yardville, in the late 60s. Must be tough to see the Bromley Inn boarded up. Ron
Thank you for posting this. My father used to take me in there and fill me up with peanuts while he shot the breeze with other locals. This photo made me homesick.
I read a book, The History of Hamilton Township, by Helen Amy West, copyright 1954. Very interesting. It mentions White Horse Tavern. I agree, sad it was torn down, as was the Bromley Inn. ( I live in Columbus, NJ, where the Olde Columbus Inn is located. I hope that doesn’t have the same fate.)

HI RON: THE STORY IS THAT HE PASSED THROUGH THE WHITE HORSE AREA ON A WHITE HORSE. NO DETAILS.
