Once again I draw on the incredible R.C. Maxwell Collection from the Duke University Library, this view of 147 Perry Street. Try as I may, I could not verify the buildings on the current "GOOGLE EARTH" view to see if the building still stands. There is a building at the intersection in Google that appears to be similar, however the location in relation to the distance Montgomery Street is from the building does not match the terrain. It would appear that the view is looking east.
Hi Tom, It would appear to me that we may be looking west on Perry St, with Saint Mary's Cathedral spire in the distance. Looking toward North Broad St. and beyond. Just my observation. Ray P. (rayfromvillapark)
ReplyDeleteTom:
ReplyDeleteCould it be Perry St. looking "West" There appears to be a high churc steeple in the shadow of the trees on the right.
Could that Be the original St.Mary's Cathedral? Perry St. does terminate at No. Warren and becomes Bank St. at this juncture.
I do recall Where the billboard is to be a store.
Just asking

Tom,
ReplyDeleteYou might find the following 19th century advertisement for a business located at the corner of Montgomery and Perry interesting (found in a scrapbook at the Bordentown public library):
