HI TOM...I VISITED THAT CEMETARY NEXT TO THE CHURCH ON E.STATE ST. THE LAST TIME I WAS IN TRENTON AND WAS SURPRISED TO SEE THE DATES ON THOSE TOMBSTONES. MOST PEOPLE DON'T REALIZE HOW OLD THOSE GRAVES ARE. MOST CITIES DON'T HAVE CEMETARIES IN THEIR DOWNTKOWN. REGARDS.

Tom:
Amazing photo! Taken exactly 75 years ago this Friday. The car in the middle behind what looks like a Packard, it identical to my first car; purchased for 10 bucks in 1950.
Loft's candy was my station, when I was a "State & Broad" Cowboy!
Right next door was the wonderful Federal Bake shop, and the office upstairs where the dentist office was, was Beacon Finance. John Bruther owned it, his brother was a State House reporter for the Ledger I think. Dick Coffee ( former Senator Richard Coffee) began his career at Breacon who motto we created as "Get you bacon at Beacon" I worked for Family Finance, Pete Radice was with Seaboard on Hanover St, and Dick Maiorino who passed away this week began his career at "Personal Finance" now known at Beneficial.
Dick Maiorino went on to run Dick Coffee's Mercer Fiance Co.
These loan companies charged rates in excess of 30% per annum and prayed you never paid off the balance.
Great times, in a formerly great city.
Best wishes

1935: EAST STATE STREET AT BROAD STREET
The original of this photo was in RGB (color) which gave it an off-white appearance. I have converted it to grayscale and went to each and every commercial sign in photo and brightened and enhanced them to match the incredible clarity of this photo. It is a true treasure. You actually feel that you are on the sidewalk in front of the First Presbyterian Church right behind that lady in the photo!
