1942: SCHULMAN'S SHOE STORE - LAFAYETTE STREET TRENTON

There were many stores in the area that sold merchandise labeled as "cancellation." These were manufactured products that got by the quality control inspectors with crooked seams, or other irregularities. Mr. Schulman was selling "Cancellation" shoes as was Mr. Schnur where we went for our back to school shoes. We could seldom see where the defects were and we saved a lot of money compared to the sky high prices of Miles, Thom McAnn, Fisher, and other name brand shoes. Mr. Schulman's original shoe store was next to Swerns at So. Broad and Lafayette Street. The original building experienced a destructive fire on the night of January 26, 1935 when he lost over $40,000 dollars in stock. The fire even made limited incursion into the Swern's building which was a nearby neighbor. Subsequent articles indicate that Mr. Schulman re-located to the 31-33 Lafayette location
