1946: Joe Szekeres' Amoc o Station Cedar Lane and Chambers St. Hamilton

Joe Szekeres Jr. sent me this beautiful 300 dots per inch photo of his dad's Amoco station. Today it is a vacant lot directly across Chambers Street from Kisthardt Body Works. Old timers will recall those familiar black and white street signs that were found all over the area in the 30's and 40's. The detail on this photo, like many original photos is remarkably clear when reproduced in high definition. It is interesting to note that Chambers Street at the time was concrete rather than today's macadam. This vantage point would find you standing on the corner on Cedar Lane, looking toward the the intersection of Chambers and South Broad Streets.

Hi Tom, I'm very interested in the photo of Szekeres Amoco station. I remember passing it many times on my way to pick up automobile sales literature at O'Keefe Motors. which was across the street, a couple of doors down from Kistardts.
My keen interest is directed at the 1941 Plymouth 2dr sedan being serviced. It is a Lucky Lee Crosby Auto Hell Drivers show car. I was not aware of Crosby, so this is a terrific piece of information. I do question the year of the photo, because the Plymouth seems to be in pristine condition. I don't believe that it could be this nice, after God knows how many shows it might have participated in from 1941 to 1946. So, I would guess that the photo was taken in 1941. Also, both cars in the background are mid 30's. The one on the right, being a 1937 Ford flatback. I would love to obtain a copy of this photo, if it at all possible. I can not find any pertinent information about Lucky Lee Crosby, although I do believe he was from this area. I wonder how long his thrill show was in business. Always something new from your site. Thanks, Ray Paszkiewicz
