In this week's "Sentimental Journey" column take a trip back to our childhood as I recall the joys of collecting and "flipping" baseball cards. We'll be visiting the years when a movie star came with every 5 cent Dixie ice cream cup. Enjoy a nostalgic trip back to the less complicated times of our childhood.

- Hi Tom: I don't remember the lids but I had some kind of buttons I sent away for. I think they might have been Roy Rogers. I took them to Jr. 3 and someone stole them. So light fingers were at work in those days too. Regards.

ReplyDeleteHI TOM....I WONDER IF ANYONE REMEMBERS THE KIDS WHO MADE THINGS FROM PEACH PITS. THEY WOULD SCRAPE THE PITS UNTILL THEY FORMED OBJECTS. I RECALL SOME BEAUTIFUL RINGS THEY MADE ALONG WITH MANY OTHER THINGS. SOME OF THOSE KIDS REALLY HAD MUCH TALENT. BEST REGARDS.

ReplyDeleteOne of my fond memories of those halcyon days was making a scooter out of a "Wooden" soda box, a lenght of 2"x4" one old not used roller skate that came apart at the middle, and 2 short pieces of wood for a steering wheel.
The real coup de gras was the "V" for Victory over the Axis enemy made of all one brand soda cap nailed to the front of the box.
Today the grandkids have electric miniture golf carts to ride around at the beach house. Boy they don't know what they are missing! LOL
