Ask any veteran who served in Uncle Sam's U.S. military if they still remember their serial number and I would bet that he or she would pull it out of the past like a bolt of lightning. My service with Uncle Sam as an "RA," (vs. a "US") was an experience that I will carry with me forever. As indicated in the article I wrote a number of years ago, the gifts the army gave me were twofold: 1) Teaching me to touch type, and 2) making a man out of me.
You are bringing back memories Tom, I remember one week left with basic training we were all in the barracks and visited by the personnel office staff giving us our new assignments. Now those were all coded and I asked what is this code and the Sgt. said you are an Admin. Clerk, so for the next 4 years I was that but truly enjoyed the job. I was assigned to headquarters for a wing command and had the pleasure of working with some great guys. One never forgets his service years and the storie you could tell.
ReplyDeleteMANY THANKS, JOE....AND 'YA KNOW WHAT? YOUR STORIES AND THOSE OF OTHER VISITORS ALONG WITH A PHOTO OR 2 OF YOUR MILITARY CAREERS WOULD BE OF INTEREST TO MANY OF OUR VISITORS. REMEMBER: IT IS MY HOPE THAT THESE PAGES WILL BE AROUND FOR OUR DESCENDANTS.
