Hi Tom: As I recall, the gym was built separate from the school in order to accomodate the large crowds that attended the basketball games that "Red" Smith's teams played in. In addition, Sports Night also drew a large number of people. It also provided more parking space for the large attendance. They certainly took advantage of the large tract of ground the school would use. Once again, I don't think there's a high school in the country that compares with it. Best regards. THANKS RALPH!
