1914: MARKERS FROM TRENTON TO PRINCETON

Over the years, I have had many people ask me about the markers that were set in place back in 1914 along the route of General George Washington's troops traveled on the way from the Assanpink area to Princeton. I often wonder about those markers referred to above which were placed in then rural and open fields, but are now developed. Are they still in place? True to my observation that early 20th century offset photos were lacking in detail, you will note that the inscription on the obelisk in the graphic is not legible. However, you can read what is on the bronze plaque as it is reproduced in the article. The most obvious marker still stands at the corner of Hamilton Avenue and South Broad Street on the corner of the arena.
