1921:HOLY ANGELS CARNIVAL AT BROAD STREET PARK

The Holy Angels Parish, like St. Anthony and many other Catholic parishes, along with local volunteer fire departments, held annual carnivals during the prime summer months. The graphic above tells of the carnival for the 1921 summer season as presented by the parishioners at Holy Angels Church on South Broad Street and New Cedar Lane in Hamilton. Note the the little graphic which I cut and pasted is from a LATER carnival during the time when Father Walsh was Pastor of the church.

AFTER THE ABOVE WAS POSTED, MACK MCNICOLL SENT THE PHOTO BELOW. IT NEEDED A BIT OF TWEAKING, BUT THE FINAL PRODUCT IS QUITE LEGIBLE. THANKS MUCH, MACK!
(See the link to Mack's site in my links list on the right of the home page.)

  1. Hi Tom: Now these are the carnivals we all looked forward to. Some of the greatest bands in the country played at these affairs. To name a few, Bunny Berigan, Charlie Barnet,Louis Primo, Edgar Hayes and the McFarland Twins. We'd stand around the dance floor and really enjoy watching the dancers and listening to the great music. It's another example of the great generation. Regards, Ralph

  2. Thanks for the input, Ralph. It's folks like you who make all the hard work worth while. My column in tomorrow's Trenton Times will touch on the fact that there are so few senior citizens taking advantage of the wonderful things to be found on the web that would warm their hearts with beautiful and sometimes bittersweet memories. I really appreciate your input.
