1930: NORTH OLDEN AND NORTH CLINTON AVENUES

You have quite a bit of silver in your hair if you remember the Altemus Pharmacy which is seen on the immediate right in the photo. Question: Can anyone tell me the name of that department Store on the left in the photo?

THANKS TO RALPH LUCARELLA FOR REMINDING ME THAT IT WAS SPIEGEL'S (NOT SIEGEL;S) DEPARTMENT STORE. MANY THANKS, RALPH!

  1. Tom: I drove on this road so many times heading home to Brunswick Ave. When I was younger we'd walk across the Olden Ave. bridge to the library in East Trenton from St. Hedwig's School. I had relatives who lived in East Trenton, my grandmother's brother owned a grocery meat market on the corner of North Clinton and the side street eludes me now. Was a Polish neighborhood at one time, long ago.

  4. The 1927 city directory in my collection shows that Morris Spiegel had a department store in the 400 block of No. Olden Avenue. I haven't delved into my earlier directories.
