1869: RIDER COLLEGE: IN THE EARLY YEARS

This highlighted lower left scan was meant to focus on Messrs. Beecher and Rider who made an offer which was too good to resist. As I recall, the school was organized in 1864. This is pure speculation on my part, based on an article from 1914 wherein a 50th anniversary celebration was being planned for the school. As a point of interest, I am including a portion of the full page on which the article was located. The article on the market was relating to the building of an additional downtown Trenton market. There were pros and cons on whether to dismantle the North Greene Street (Broad) market and replace it with a new market in another area, or to leave the old Greene Street market and locate another in the southern area of the town.
