1943: "V-MAIL;\:" A WWII NECESSITY

With hundreds of thousands of our men and women fighting abroad during World War II, it was obvious that there had to be a way to relieve the U.S. Postal Service from the bulky letters and cards that were being sent daily by wives, mothers, brothers, and sweethearts. The answer was V-Mail. A letter was photographed and reduced in size by the post office, and inserted in a standard 4" envelope, and forwarded to the recipient. I remember the Glovers received daily V-Mails from btother Len, all from "Somewhere in England."
