Beginning in the 1930's when Adolph Hitler came to power, more and more articles were being written as the National Socialists took control of Germany and began to threaten world peace. Here in America, the German-American Bund openly demonstrated their allegiance to National Socialist Germany. Threats of the "fifth column" and sabotage were more and more prominent in the news. In Hamilton, the forward thinking town fathers decided to organize a municipal defense council.
