Today it's known as Trenton Catholic Academy, McCorristin Campus. Perhaps many of the folks who re-named it probably weren't around in 1961 when the "Iron Mike," Monsignor Michael P. McCorristin and a small but valiant crew of St. Anthony parish volunteers exerted back-breaking labor in the nearly impossible effort to build a high school to replace Trenton Catholic High School in Chambersburg. My choice for a name for the new school would have been, "McCorristin Catholic High School."
Didn't the schoool also use the former property of A. J. Cunningham and Sons, contractors, on the corner of Newkirk? I haven't been in the neighborhood since 1960, and my memory is hazy, so please correct me if my info is wrong . . .
ReplyDeleteMy name is Jessie Lee Cunningham and I just graduated from TCA last year. Many people in my family, including me, attended the former McCorristin and I wanted to let you know that although my class is proud to be from TCA, we never refer to it as Trenton Catholic. We also call it McCorristin Catholic Academy. The classes have gotten smaller and the colors have changed, but we will always have Iron Mike pride, just as those who came before us have.
