1946: SUMMERTIME IN THE BURG

WITH THE RECENT ETHNIC CHANGES IN THE CHAMBERSBURG AREA, I FIND I AM BECOMING MORE AND MORE INTERESTED IN THE EVENTS WHICH TOOK PLACE THERE DURING THE TIME WHEN IT WAS A PREDOMINENTLY AMERICAN-ITALIAN COMMUNITY. THE OPEN FIRE HYDRANT WAS A COMMON OCCURRENCE IN CHAMBERSBURG WHERE THE ROW HOMES AND HOT STREETS MADE FOR A VERY UNCOMFORTABLE LOCATION DURING ONE OF JERSEY'S CLASSIC HEAT WAVES.
