Later in the 30's the Canal was filled and this was this was a regular street crossing. The red brick building on the right was still there and on the left aross the railroad tracks was the main post office. We roller skated(key skates)on the loading dock behind it. It had the smoothest cement surface I've ever seen. of course the personnel was constatly chasing us off. The old filled in Canal bed from Perry to State St.was our "shortcut" to downtown. The Bulidng in the Background was the Moose Hall, where Saturday night Dances were the rage, and always crowded. I think the name of the band leader was Randy Brooks. This time period was early War years, 1942, 43 , and 44. Great Music and grat dancing.
