1945: NOTTINGHAM WAY CHICKEN HATCHERY

Publish Post
THE CITIZENS OF THAT AREA DECLARED, "NIMBY!" (NOT IN MY BACK YARD.) I WONDERED IF THE HATCHERY HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE ARNDT CHICKEN FARM THAT WAS IN THE MERCERVILL-HAMI LTON SQUARE AREA BACK IN THE 1940'S. NOT BEING FAMILIAR WITH THE NOTTINGHAM WAY AREA AS IT WAS IN THE EARLY 30'S, I WOULD ASSUME THAT THE AREA WHERE THE NIMBY FOLKS LIVED WAS NOT AS RURAL AS THE MAJORITY OF THE TOWNSHIP.

  1. I believe the facility was located just to the East of the Route 33 and Whitehorse Mercerville Road on the right hand side. It was later operated as a (I think) munitions work during WWII by Arndt. Arntd's son lived on Grayson Avenue in Mercerville and the elderly Arntd lived on a large estate outside of Hightstown. In retirement he had several greenhouses and raise flowers.
