1947: UNREQUITED LOVE

SEE THAT "KAISER" IN THE UPPER RIGHT ENGRAVING? IT WAS ONE OF THE CARS OF MY DREAMS. FOR SOME REASON, I ALWAYS WANTED TO OWN ONE OF THE "ORPHAN" CARS AS MADE BY HUDSON, STUDEBAKER, NASH, AND KAISER-FRAZER. REMEMBER THE "OLD WIVES TALE" THAT TOLD US THAT THOSE CARS WERE INFERIOR TO THE "BIG THREE" DUE TO THEIR POOR TRADE-IN VALUE. WHAT A CROCK THAT WAS! THOSE CARS LASTED LONGER THAN THE CARS IN THE "BIG THREE." DON'T MISS THE REAL STEEL BUMPERS ON THOSE CARS! TODAY'S PLASTIC BUMPERS WITH THAT "SHOCK ABSORBER" BACKING IS FAR INFERIOR TO THE CARS OF THE 30'S 40'S AND 50'S.. THE FENDERS WERE ALSO MADE OF HEAVY STEEL; UNLIKE THE CRINKLY ALUMINUM FOIL BODIES IN TODAY'S AUTOS.
