1946: PARKING METERS: THE DECLINE BEGINS

ONE OF THE VERY SAD SITUATIONS IN THE CITY OF TRENTON IS THE PARKING PROBLEM. THE STREETS ARE VERY NARROW AND WHEN THE ORIGINAL TOWN WAS LAID OUT, NO THOUGHT WAS GIVEN TO FUTURE VEHICLES THAT WOULD TRAVEL TO AND FROM TOWN. PARKING METERS PROVED TO BE A NECESSARY EVIL. THE POST WWII DEVELOPMENT OF THE CITY WITH ALL THOSE GLASS-ENCRUSTED HIGH RISE BUILDINGS CHANGED THE CHARACTER OF TRENTON FROM THE SMALL TOWN FEEL TO A LARGE METROPOLIS.
