1913: Unless you were a "Wasp" you were a victim

My substantial "JEWISH" folder contains many examples of racial discrimination. The White Anglo-Saxon Protestants who provided most of the journalism in the past was brutal on the immigrant community. The Irish were stereotyped as being drunkards, and most editorial cartoons portrayed them with an ape-like countenance. The Italians were ridiculed by their attempts to speak the English language fit only to do the menial labor, and the black community was portrayed as less than human. The Jewish community was usually portrayed as corrupt, money changers, whose facial features nearly always portrayed a huge nose.
