I was so excited!
I was born Victoria Hildebrecht in 1947. My father, Karl, was killed in a car accident when I was 5 months old and my mother remarried Michael DeCavalcante (also of Trenton and New Jersey). I did not know that Karl was my birth father until I was about 15 years old. Fast forward--Now I am retired and doing genealogy research to write the story of Charles and his son (my father) Karl Hildebrecht for my sons.

It is exciting to learn more about my grandfather Charles F. HIldebrecht who ran the restaurant and ice cream business. (Now I know why I am addicted to ice cream--it's in my DNA...) I know the restaurant and ice cream business were quite successful, but when he expanded to build the hotel, history did him in. The Hotel was finished in 1929 and it went back to the bank almost immediately. I can only imagine how crushing that was. My grandfather, Charles, died about 5 years later--I suspect of a broken heart. I am still researching how how he died. I know his father and uncle both committed suicide and I'm hoping that did not pass down to Charles.
Thanks for "listening" and putting together such a great collection of history.
Vicki Field

Sparking Possibilitieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01587837482064970743noreply@blogger.com
