1934: SCHROTH'S POST 93 BASEBALL

Thank you, Mary Ellen Devlin for this photo of the 1934 Schroth team as they visited President Franklin Roosevelt's Hyde Park home. It's a happy coincidence that I have a news photo of the team as published in the Trenton Times back in 1934.

BOY! IS THAT BRINGING BACK MEMORIES. I PLAYED WITH THE 1936 SCHROTHS AND MY BROTHER CHUCK PLAYED WITH THE 1948 SCHROTHS THAT WON THE AMERICAN LEGION WORLD SERIES IN INDIANAPOLIS. I NEVER FELT SO GOOD AS WHEN I WAS SELECTED TO PLAY BY JAKE MILLER, THE SCHROTHS MANAGER AT THAT TIME. MY BROTHER WENT ON TO PLAY AT WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY AND LATER WENT TO MEDICAL SCHOOL TO BECOME A HEART SPECIALIST. REGARDS.

I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT I KNEW MOST OF THOSE PLAYERS ON THE 1934 TEAM AND I COMPETED WITH THEM IN VARIOUS LEAGUES THROUGHOUT THE CITY. THE SCHROTHS WERE THE TEAM MOST KIDS WISHED THEY COULD PLAY FOR AND I WAS OVER JOYED TO BE SELECTED. MY LATE BROTHER "CHUCK" NOT ONLY MADE THE TEAM BUT WENT ON TO BETTER ACCOMPISHMEDNTS. MAY GOD BLESS HIM AND MAY HE REST IN PEACE. REGARDS.

I COULD RECALL THE CHICAGO GAME IN NEW ORLEANS WHEN THE SCHROTHS LOST TO THEM IN THE FINALS. THE STAR OF THE GAME WAS PHIL CAVAROTTA, WHO WENT ON TO BECOME A MAJOR LEAGUE STAR WITH THE CUBS. HE LIVED NEARBY TO US IN FORT LAUDERDALE WHEN WE MOVED TO FLORIDA. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR THE MEMORIES. BEST REGARDS.
