1940: THE CIVILIAN CONSERVATION CORPS

The "CCC" provided many young men to get a taste of the military life and be exposed to the discipline required to become a productive citizen. In 1940, there were many families who had sons who were unemployed. The CCC was the perfect answer and many young men answered the call. At the time, we were on the cusp of WWII, and the CCC ultimately provided many very qualified young men who were well prepared for the rigors of military life.

HI AGAIN TOM....THE CCC WAS VERY POPULAR AMONG THE YOUNGER GUYS IN THE 40'S. I WAS'NT QUITE OLD ENOUGH TO JOIN BUT I DID JOIN THE NYA, THE NATIONAL YOUTH ADMINISTRATION. WE WORKED 8 DAYS A MONTH AT THE 112 FIELD ARTILLERY. MOST PEOPLE IN THE BURG TOOK PART IN THAT PROGRAM. IT WAS A LITTLE HELP IN MAKING THINGS WORK OUT FOR THE FAMILY. REGARDS.

Tom:
My brother Ed joined the CCC's in the late 1930's and was stationed in the Mountains of New York, buiding National parks. He and many of our neighbors spent several years in this service which was started by FDR along with the TVA, and PWA( Public Works administration commonly mistakenly called the WPA)
Roosevelt unlike today's politicians within 24 hours of his inauguration (in March not January) called together the brightest minds in America to put together this package of programs which brought our country out of the great depression. Oh how I wish we had that quality of politician today.
