I hadn't heard of this catastrophe in North Jersey. I found another post on the web: http://www.roxburynewjersey.com/hercules.htm Nothing remains but a single house. I wonder what ever became of the Nazi sabotage allegations?
Close to where I now live, there was a huge explosion (1944) at Port Chicago of the Concord Naval Weapons Station. Thousands of tons of munitions went off, killing 320.
