I grew up from 1953 to 1977 in Broad St. Park, a block from "the lake" which by that time was overgrown with no sign of the park. But there were always rumors of White City Park and the big house at the top of the hill (maybe on Harrison), which is still there, i believe. It is very cool to see pictures. Your blog is great.
Again, my parents spoke of this amusement park often. As Cathy said,it's so hard to believe that the amusement park closed. my friends and i would walk around the lake in the spring and summer and when there was ice in the winter, they would ice skate. I preferred to roller skate at the Capitol Rink, the ice scared me. I love seeing the pictures of a time gone by. Maybe when the beaches started having boardwalks and amusements, people preferred to spend a day at the beach. Atlantic City must have been fabulous back in the day. We're so fortunate to have photos and movies of those days. It's live history!
Just a quick question - whatever became of White City Park? I have a few friends who used to live in that area and we would walk around what remains of the park - this was in the late 1980s. I remember the benches and the lake and many people fishing and am fascinated to see the post cards showing the roller coaster!
